Dave Weckl was born on January 8th, 1960, in St. Louis. He started playing the drums at the age of 8, and has been playing ever since. Weckl started winning awards as early as his high school years, where he won numerous awards for his incredible jazz performances. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a major of Jazz studies. Weckl is known as the triplet king, playing for jazz fusion bands around the world. Weckl has played with many artists such as Paul Simon, Madonna, George Benson, Michel Camilo, and Anthony Jackson. Dave Weckl has incredible stick control, being a master of the traditional and matched stick grips. He has grown popular from his technical solos and intuitive instructional videos and books.
Dave Weckl has received many awards and accolades, including one of the 25 best drummers of all time, and being enrolled into the modern drummer hall of fame. Weckl has played for many big bands, including his own - “the Dave Weckl Band”. Dave is no just a drummer, he is also a producer, recorder, teacher, and tourist. As for drums, Dave Weckl is singed with Yamaha drums, Sabian cymbals, and Vic Firth drumsticks. His favorite drum sets would be the Yamaha Recording Custom, Maple Custom, and Birch Absolute. Weckl has a few signature snare drums designed along with Yamaha as well. With Sabian, Dave helped create the HHX Evolution series, and the HHX Legacy series. Weckl uses a huge array of Sabian cymbals, mainly consisting of the HHX series.
